CAF WOMEN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: BAYELSA QUEENS DEPART LAGOS FOR WAFU B QUALIFIER

Bayelsa Queens arrived Lagos state Monday afternoon and will jet off to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire for West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B qualifier for Confederation of Africa (CAF) Women’s Champions League later this year.

Bayelsa Queens emerged the 2021/2022 NWFL Premiership Super 6 champions with an emphatic 2-1 win against Nasarawa Amazons at the lush pitch of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State on May 23rd, 2022.

The fifth time champions [2004, 2006, 2007, 2018 a d 2022] will face Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Burkina Faso’s USFA and Athleta FC of Togo in group B.

This will be the second time Ghana and Nigeria teams will be clashing at the group stage of the WAFU tournament after Hasaacas Ladies and River Angels had clashed at the group stage in the maiden edition. The Nigerian side won the group encounter 2-0, but Hasaacas also beat them 3-1 in the final.

Unfortunately, maiden edition winners, Hasaaca Ladies and Rivers Angels did not qualify for this year’s edition.

Unlike the maiden edition where two teams from WAFU B represented the zone, this season will see just one club representing the region at the main tournament in Egypt.
